Surangan Music School is a Bangladeshi music and cultural organization in Houston, Texas. The school teaches classical, semi classical and vocal music of Bangladesh and India. Founded in 2010, the school is dedicated to teach rich Bangladeshi and Bangalee culture to next generation Bangladeshi-American kids and young. At educational and performing levels, the school’s main focus is on the works of Rabindranath Tagore and Nazrul Islam.
The school teaches music to interested adults, and actively participates in various Bangladeshi national and cultural events. Classes are held on weekends.
Surangan Music School is run by Suparna Ghosh, a contemporary Tagore singer, widely hailed in Bangladeshi community in Houston as one of the most versatile exponents of this musical genre. Born and raised in Bangladesh, Rupa took classical training for more than fifteen years under Ustad Nirod Barua and Pandit Manas, and further strengthened on Tagore Songs during her days in Santiniketan. Rupa is proud recipient of prestigious Sur-Saptak Sangeet Biddwapith Award and National Tagore Song Sammelon Award.
