Kobi Nazrul Centre, established in 1982 and reopened in 2000, is a multi purpose community center for Bangladeshi people of Tower Hamlet of London to offer library facilities, meeting place, Bangladeshi cultural events – drama, music, dance, poetry, art and craft etc. There are various classes on dance, drama, poetry and music. Bangladesh elders and women’s can use the facility for their activities at a short notice.
The Kobi Nazrul Centre is located close to Brick Lane and Spitalfields, the building has the following spaces which are available for hire for a variety of events:
Main Hall and theatre with a capacity of 60 people
Meeting room with a capacity of 25 people
Committee Room with a capacity of 15 people
The aims and objectives of Kobi Nazrul Centre:
- Promote the arts and in particular Bangla arts, supporting and working with individuals and organizations concerned with performing, exhibiting and teaching.
- Support the development of both modern and traditional cultural and artistic initiatives for the purpose of promoting education and community development and alleviating social deprivation.
- Encourage local people to participate in the arts, including developing skills, capacity building and supporting a wide range of teaching, participation and study to a high level.
