Greater Washington Hindu Society (GWHS) is a Bangladesh not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501(C) (3), religious, educational organization involved in promoting Bangla Sanatan culture in the greater Washington DC Metro Area (Northern Virginia: Fairfax, Springfield, Alexandria, Arlington, Woodbridge, Maryland, Washington DC). GWHS started its journey in December 2012, with the goal of creating a positive and enjoyable experience of friendship, happiness, and harmony via Bangla heritage.
Besides celebrating Bangla and Bangladeshi culture, practicing Hinduism, Greater Washington Hindu Society (GWHS) intends to reach out to other communities as well. Therefore, membership of GWHS is open to all race or ethnic origin. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for the children of Bangladeshi heritage to learn about the ancient cultural tradition of Bangladesh and Indian sub-continent as a whole through various religious, social, cultural and literary events organized by GWHS, like Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja, Bangla New Year Celebration (Bangla Nababarsho), etc.
Mission of Greater Washington Hindu Society (GWHS):
- To facilitate practice Hindu religion and culture, and promote the teaching of Hindu scriptures.
- To bring into closer relation the members of the Hindu community.
- To preserve and promote Hindu traditions and cultural heritage.
- Encourage and embrace the values of community service and volunteerism.
- To teach our younger generations the history and development of the Hindu philosophy and religion and to inculcate a pride of their heritage. Encourage their participation and involvement with daily activities of the Association.
