The Bangladeshi immigrants in the USA are the first generation immigrants having the maximum influx in the 80’s and 90’s. To meet the need of the local Bangladeshi community, the Bangladesh Association, Houston was established in 1972 as a non-profit organization in the state of Texas and granted the Internal Revenue Tax exempted 501 (3) status in May of 1985. Bangladesh American Center is a project of Bangladesh Association, Houston. The aim of the project is to build a Bangladeshi community center with following facilities:
- Free medical health clinic
- Library
- Passport, dual-citizenship, power of attorney, visa and consulate service
- Computer training and professional job seeking
- After school program for kids
- Immigration related help
- Tutoring
- Bangladeshi art, music, and other cultural services
- Driving classes – for elders and new drivers (young)
- Spoken Bangla classes – for non-Bangla speaking individuals
- Programs for senior citizen, etc.
