The Bangladesh-American Society of Greater Houston (BASGH) is a non-profit and non-political organization of the Bangladeshi Houston-based community. The organization was formed
- to provide for the intellectual, cultural, physical, social, spiritual, and civic welfare of people of Bangladeshi origin
- to promote understanding, goodwill, and appreciation of the cultures of Bangladesh among all persons regardless of color, creed, race, religion, and national origin
- to promote Bengali-American relations
- to promote cultural exchange with other groups, organizations, or institutions interested in Bengali culture
- to facilitate activities of other professionals, students, or any other group of Bangladeshis

Resources for education, such as libraries, museums, and exhibitions.
A center for learning Bengali language, art, and folklore.
A space for cultural enrichment and community engagement.
Programs to instill Bangladeshi values in children and youth.
Recognition for individuals, associations, or institutions contributing to the Bangladeshi community.
Scholarships and educational support.
Governance:
A 15-member Board of Directors governs BASGH. Five new members are elected to replace five retiring members every year, ensuring a rotating membership. The Board elects a 6-member Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Organizational Secretary, and Cultural Secretary) to oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations.

Academic Scholarship:
The Shamima and Towfique Habib Scholarship is offered to dedicated, hard-working, outstanding students with limited means to enable them to attend any college and university in the United States of America.
