IOD Bangladeshi Asso and Cultural Center (IoDBACC) was established in 1985 in the heart of Docklands for the welfare & benefit of the increasing Bangladeshi community in the area by themselves and still serving the community on their day-to-day needs. It is the only Bangladeshi organization in the area with proper office settings.
Aims and Objectives of IoDBACC:
- To relieve poverty by provision of advice, information and counseling;
- To advance education in language, history and culture of Bangladesh and to integrate with the multi-cultural society of this land;
- To advance education among the residents of Tower Hamlets in particular, the Bangladeshi residents of Docklands area by provision of training to obtain better employment;
- To provide various facilities for the recreation of the local Bangladeshi residents and their children in the interest of social welfare for the improvement of a better & quality of life;
- To assist the local students, research projects or any other organization working or want to work for the development of the Bangladeshi community in the area;
IOD Bangladeshi Asso and Cultural Center has the following activities:
EDUCATIONAL
Running Bengali Mother Tongue School (5 evenings a week)
ADVICE SESSION
Providing Advice and Information on:
Welfare Rights, Housing, Health, Education, Immigration, Training, Job, Recreation and Family Issues etc. (4 days a week).
YOUTH ACTIVITIES
Indoor Games for local young people.
Indoor games for children during holidays.
Outing for all (2/3 times a year).
Cultural events, Arts shows etc
PENSIONERS CLUB
Every Saturday for socialization, watching old films, listening folk songs, group shopping, discussion on local issues, social & political issues of this country and back Bangladesh etc.
Advice, information and supports on their day-to-day needs.
Recreational activities.
WOMEN’S PROJECT
Monthly get together for socializing, providing information on various social, health, educational, employment, training and community issues;
Day trips for fruit picking, cinema, seaside or group shopping etc.
All these activities and development have created a ‘positive image’ within Bangladeshi community for their various needs and supports. Apart from the activities, the local councilors run their surgeries from the center at a regular intervals.
