Founded in 2014, UnoBangal (ঊনবাঙাল) is a vibrant Bangla literary organization that serves as a cultural hub for the Bangladeshi community in New York City. With a mission to foster and celebrate Bangla literature in its purest form, UnoBangal provides a non-political, non-religious, and inclusive platform for Bangladeshi literary creators to express themselves freely and boldly.
UnoBangal embodies the organization’s core mission to promote and preserve Bangla literature and language. Its events serve as a vital platform for Bangladeshi writers residing in the USA, providing them with a dedicated space to showcase their work and connect directly with readers. By prioritizing writers over publishers, UnoBangal fosters a deeper appreciation for the creative process and strengthens the bond between authors and their audience. UnoBangal commits to nurturing creativity and celebrating the richness of Bangla culture via diverse programs, including literary discussions, poetry recitations, and cultural performances.
The group members hold monthly meetings in various locations in five boroughs of New York City. UnoBangal has over 100 members, and a 13-member committee acts as advisory.
Most of UnoBangal meetings and events are free and open to all.
