In-vehicle driving lesson:
Most new drivers who fail their road tests were not adequately prepared. The DMV recommends that all learners have a minimum of 50 hours of supervised practice driving before they take their road tests, with at least 15 hours at night (after sunset). It is also recommended that at least 10 hours of supervised practice driving be in moderate to heavy traffic.
Road Test:
Upon completion of 50 lessons, road test appointments are scheduled. If you pass your road test, the license examiner normally gives you an interim driver’s license that is valid for 90 days. Keep the interim driver’s license with your learner’s permit as proof that you have a driver’s license.
4 Point Reduction Program:
If you incurred violations during the 18 months before completing the course, up to 4 points will be automatically reduced on your driving record. The point reduction could help you avoid license suspension. It will not cancel, however, mandatory suspension or revocation,(e.d. 3 speeding convictions within 18 months) Nor will it cancel any action already being taken against the motorist’s driving privileges. You may take the New York Safety Program course every 18 months for point-reduction purposes.
Discount on Insurance Premium:
Upon completion of the Point and Insurance Reduction Program through the New York Safety Program, you will be eligible to get a discount on your Collision and Auto Liability Insurance for 3 full years. Your liability premium includes Property Damage (PD), and Body Injury Protection (PIP). This discount will apply to all vehicles for which you are listed as the principal operator.
