Bangladesh Association of New England (BANE) is an organization for the Bangladeshi community living in the New England area of the USA (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Since 1971, the organization has arranged Bangladeshi cultural programs. It celebrates Bangla New Year, Bangla Language Day, Bangladesh Independence Day, Bangladesh Liberation Day, and other events. Bangladesh Association of New England organizes concerts, fairs, dance, and music events as part of its activities.
The organization also helps Bangladeshi kids learn the Bangla language. The Bangla language program is open to all Bangladeshi communities in Cambridge, Medford, Somerville, Billerica, and surrounding areas. The tuition fee for a Bangla language class is $10/student. Classes are held every Sunday for three hours.
The association has a two-year membership program. The membership fee varies from $15 to $500. Members are entitled to vote in the biennial Election/Selection of the Executive Committee. To become a member, one has to be (1) 18 years old, (2) a legal resident of New England, and (3) of Bangladeshi origin.
