Bernard Schwartz Book Award Luncheon with Gary Bass at Asia Society, New York.
The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide by Gary Bass (Alfred A. Knopf, 2013) was named winner of the 2014 Asia Society Bernard Schwartz Book Award for its outstanding contribution to advancing the understanding of contemporary Asia and U.S.-Asia relations. In The Blood Telegram, Dr. Gary Bass paints a picture of U.S.-South Asia relations during the Cold War, telling the story of the U.S. role in the 1971 civil war in East Pakistan which led to the creation of the state of Bangladesh.
Asia Society’s Bernard Schwartz Book Award is the only award that recognizes nonfiction books for their outstanding contributions to the understanding of contemporary Asia or U.S.-Asia relations.
The event will also feature remarks by David Shambaugh, the author of China Goes Global: The Partial Power, one of the honorable mentions for this year’s award.
