Palki – a palanquin or sedan chair used in traditional wedding ceremony in Bangladesh and India. Palki – a box-like vehicle carried on shoulders by usually six men – is a wedding transportation means. Brides are carried to the bridegrooms’ home by Palki. The tradition is almost non-existence in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) will present the vibrant culture of Bangladeshi wedding through dance, song and dramatization of wedding with Palki. A sample life size Palki will be on stage. Two Bangladeshi artists – Rokon and Tarief will construct Palki. The event is free and open to all.
