Bangla Spelling Bee Competition 2016

BANAN (বানান) – Bangla Spelling Bee competition will be arranged to celebrate Ekushey/Ekushe February and International Mother Language Day. Bangla spelling bee is a fun competition for Bangladeshi community living in New York City. The competition is designed for all levels – from children to adults. Bangla pronunciation and writing in Bangla script are also required to win the contest.

Space are limited, therefore, registration is required to participate in the competition. All organizations are welcome.  The event is free. All are welcome to join. There are many prizes to win!

Category 1: Age 5 to 10 (2-3 letters, everyday common Bangla words)
Category 2: Age 11 to 16 (3-5 letters, everyday common Bangla words)
Category 3: Parents, guardians, and guests (book reading, 2-6 letter Bangla words)

Ekushey February – 2016, Bangladesh Society

Ekushey February (একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারী) will be organized by Bangladesh Society, Inc. The event will be observed by many Bangladeshi community organizations – social, political, professional, regional, religious groups, as well as individuals. The day will be observed music, dance, arts, poetry etc. A booklet will be published to commemorate the day. Special event for children.

Ekushey February is observed as a Mother Language Day in Bangladesh and internationally. The event is free and all are welcome.

Flower wrath will be placed on makeshift Shaheed Minar at midnight.

International Bangla Festival & Book Fair 2016

International Bangla Festival & Book Fair 2016 (আন্তর্জাতিক বাংলা উৎসব ও বইমেলা) will be held in New York from May 20 to May 22. The three-day event will cover many facets of Bangladeshi culture practiced and celebrated by Bangladeshi community living in New York City. This year will mark festival’s 25th anniversary. The festival is generally organized by Muktadhara Foundation of New York.

The primary aim of the International Bangla Festival & Book Fair or (Boi Mela, in general) is to celebrate Bangladeshi culture and heritage among expatriate Bangladeshi community living in North America. The festival works as a platform for Bangladeshi diaspora to meet and greet and enjoy cultural entertainment with family and friends. Literary discussions, book reviews, poetry recitation, music, dance, folk drama, children’s program, youth discussion, book fair, photo exhibition are part of the three-day event. A colorful souvenir will be published to mark the occasion.

Many publishers, writers, poets, singers, and literary personalities are expected to join from Bangladesh and West Bengal of India. Books can be purchased from book vendors. Various kinds of events are planned to celebrate the fair.

A Bangla Utsob Parade will be held at Diversity Plaza of Jackson Heights at 5:00 pm on Friday, 20th. The event has no entrance fee and all programs are free for all.
