Tasher Desh by BIPA

Tasher Desh or the Land of Cards – a dance opera by Rabindranath Tagore will be presented by BIPA (Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts). All of the child performers are student of BIPA. The play is translated in easy English so that all kids can understand it. The play has been choreographed by Annie Ferdous. This production of Tagore’s Land of Cards takes a satirical look at tyranny and control and celebrates freedom of speech and thoughts – a battle between new ideas and old tradition. This event is supported, in part, by Council Member Brad Lander.

 New York Premiere – Women’s Uprising: Stories of Bangladeshi Resistance (2 days)

With stories collected from survivors and living ancestors of the Bangladeshi Liberation War, victims of Islamophobia and entrapment, this play takes the viewers on a journey with young Bangladeshi women uncovering family histories that end up changing their lives. A political theater based on the lives of Bangladeshi activists and communities throughout the diaspora. Women’s Uprising: Stories of Bangladeshi Resistance highlights the struggles and resilience of Bangladeshi people. This play is a collaborative project of the Bangladeshi Historical Memory Project, created with the help of Bangladeshi historians, artists, poets and musicians.

Smriti Sudha (স্মৃতি সুধা) is Bangla stage drama performed by Nagorik Nataangon Unassemble (নাগরিক নাট্যাঙ্গন অনসাম্বল) in Queens, New York. The drama was written by Monoj Mitra and directed by Rawshan Ara Hossain. All the actor and actresses are of Bangladeshi origin – some are veteran, some are amateur in acting.
