First Hour of Ekushey in New York 2016

First Hour of Ekushey February will be observed by Bangladeshi community in Manhattan, in front of United Nations Building. Flower wrath will be placed on temporary Shaheed Minar. The event will be celebrated with due reverence and end with a small cultural program. All are welcome.

Bangla Spelling Bee Competition 2016

BANAN (বানান) – Bangla Spelling Bee competition will be arranged to celebrate Ekushey/Ekushe February and International Mother Language Day. Bangla spelling bee is a fun competition for Bangladeshi community living in New York City. The competition is designed for all levels – from children to adults. Bangla pronunciation and writing in Bangla script are also required to win the contest.

Space are limited, therefore, registration is required to participate in the competition. All organizations are welcome.  The event is free. All are welcome to join. There are many prizes to win!

Category 1: Age 5 to 10 (2-3 letters, everyday common Bangla words)
Category 2: Age 11 to 16 (3-5 letters, everyday common Bangla words)
Category 3: Parents, guardians, and guests (book reading, 2-6 letter Bangla words)

International Mother Language Day Seminar

International Mother Language Day Seminar on ‘Language Movement 1947-1956’. The seminar will discuss the Bangla Language Movement, also known as the Language Movement/ভাষা আন্দোলন  – a political movement in former East Pakistan (today Bangladesh) advocating the recognition of the Bangla language as an official language of Pakistan in order to allow its use in government affairs, the continuation of its use as a medium of education, its use in media, currency and stamps, and to maintain its writing in the Bangla script.

Bangla poetry recitation and songs will be part of the event. All are welcome to join.

The seminar is organized by Ekushey Chetna Parishad, USA.

Ekushey February or International Mother Language Day Celebration, organized by Shariatpur Somity of North America, Inc. All Bangladeshi regional, social, cultural, sport, professional and political organizations are welcome to participate jointly in the event. Bangla Book Fair to celebrate Ekushey/Ekushe February. Organized by Muktadhara New York, Inc. Duration of the fair from February 18 to February 27.
