Bangladeshi Folk Music Convention, New York

Bangladesh Folk Music Convention New York will remember Bangladeshi writer Humayun Ahmed.

Invited participants will discuss about Bangladeshi folk music, history and trend etc. Folk singers will entertain the audience with popular Bangladeshi songs. Samples of drama, film and other cultural showpieces are also part of the event. Stalls with Bangladeshi products will be available for shopping convenience. There is a competition for Bangladeshi children and youth to showcase their talents.

The event is free to attend. All are welcome.

Tasher Desh by BIPA – Free

Tasher Desh by BIPA – Free drama event for all.

Tasher Desh or the Land of Cards is a dance opera by Rabindranath Tagore. The drama will be presented by students of BIPA (Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts) to celebrate Bangla New Year. The opera is in English. Tasher Desh is satirical look at tyranny and control and celebrates freedom of speech and thoughts – a battle between new ideas and old tradition. This event is part of the Singing Wind: Storytelling from Around the world and supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Rabindra-Nazrul Joyonti – Atlanta. The work, music and life of Rabindranath Tagore and Nazrul Islam will be celebrated by Bangladeshi community in Atlanta. the event is organized by Bangladhara. The aim of the event is to introduce these two Bangla literary figures with the new generation of Bangladeshi kids as well as enjoy their songs and poetry recitation. Essay contest for new generation: Know the Nobel prize winner poet of Bangla Literature: Rabindranath Tagore (14 – 19 years). Exploring Kazi Nazrul Islam – Revolutionary National Poet of Bangladesh (14 years and younger).
