Remembering Ramkanai Das

Pandit Ramkanai Das will be remembered by Bangladeshi music lovers of New York City.  Ramkanai Das (1935-2014) was a Bangladeshi singer. He was awarded Ekushey Award by the Government of Bangladesh. Many songs written by Ramkanai Das will be presented by local Bangladeshi singers. The event is free and open to all. The event is organized by Sangeet Parishad, New York.

Thousand Voices Sing Sonar Bangla

Thousand Voices Sing Sonar Bangla is an event organized by Total Cable for Bangladeshi community in New York, USA. The aim of the event is to celebrate Bangla music in New York, Bangladeshi community’s love and emotion about Bangla language, promote Bangla learning habit among 2nd generation Bangladeshi kids.

Another aim of Thousand Voices Sing Sonar Bangla is to try to create a world record outside Bangladesh by singing in thousand voices.

The event is organized by several Bangladeshi community and business organizations. The plan is to sing four songs in four boroughs of New York – Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Bangladeshi-Americans will sing four songs:

  • National Anthem of USA (in English)
  • National Anthem of Bangladesh (in Bangla)
  • Ekushe February Song (Amar vaier Rokte Rangano in Bangla)
  • Ora Amar Mukher Bhasa Kaira Nite Chai (in Bangla)

A all day street fair will be held on Purdy Ave of Bronx.

2nd and 3rd events to create a world record by singing National Anthem of Bangladesh by thousands of Bangladeshi immigrants will be held in Church McDonald Ave in Brooklyn and 37th Road in Jackson Heights, Queens. Dates will be announced later.

Surer Kheya / সুরের খেয়া

Surer Kheya (সুরের খেয়া) – A music night of  Roquaiya Hasina Neely. The event is organized by Rongaloy NY. The singer will sing Rabindra Sangeet and old Bangla songs. The event is free, all welcome. First Come, First Seated.

Roquaiya Hasina Neely has been a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer of Bangladesh. She is also an accomplished presenter of songs of Atul Prasad, D.L. Roy and Rajani Kanta. She has also trained under Abdul Ahad, Dr. Sanjida Khatoon, Late Wahidul Haque, Zahidur Rahim and Ajit Roy. Mrs. Neely started singing in Bangladesh Betar and BTV in 1976. She had been a teacher at the Chhayanaut and is teaches Sarkari Sangeet Mohabidhaylay, Agargaon, Dhaka. She also sings for several private television channels of Bangladesh.

AnandaDhwani USA will present ‘Nobo Anonde Jago’ (নব আনন্দে জাগো) – a drama by Rabindranath Tagore. The program is in Bangla with no English translation. The event will also offer special reception to some Bangladeshi cultural personalities.
